A celebration of life service for Samuel (Sammy, aka Sam I am) William Keaton Jr., age 56, of Priceville, will be Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Herring officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation is today, July 25, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.at Roselawn Funeral Home.
Sammy passed away on July 22, 2015, in Morgan County. He was born March 16, 1959, in Morgan County to Samuel and Rebecca Steenson Keaton, Sammy was the first of two children to Samuel and Rebecca Steenson Keaton. Sammy graduated from Morgan County High School and Calhoun Community College. After graduation he began a career with Wolverine Tube where he was a shell band operator, the shell band was, as he called it his baby, and he was so proud of his work. Sammy left Wolverine and many friends, after 25 years due to his health.
Sammy loved riding and racing dirt bikes and motorcycles. He had several vintage motorcycles throughout the years and enjoyed working on them. He loved great fellowship with friends and neighbors. Sammy had one son S. Gerritt Keaton (Rhonda South Herring) who recently graduated from Auburn University. He was so proud of Gerritt’s accomplishments in high school and college, especially with the Priceville High School band and Auburn University Marching Band. Sammy loved to scuba dive and travel. Sammy was an accomplished machinist and successful motorcycle racer. He loved music and going to many concerts through the years with the best being The Beach Boys concert where they put Gerritt on stage with them, meeting them and getting autographs.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents Samuel (2013) and Rebecca Steenson Keaton (1999), and his grandparents.
Sammy is survived by his son, Gerritt Keaton of Marietta GA; Gerritt’s mother and stepfather, Larry and Rhonda South Herring, of Somerville; his brother, Stuart (Skip) W. Keaton and Jennifer H. Keaton, of Marietta, GA; his nephews and niece,Tony Keaton, Alyssa Keaton and Lee Keaton, all of Marietta GA; his former in-laws and nephews, friends, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends, Ferris, Chrissy, Sherry and their families along with many more special people in his life.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation and thankfulness to everyone that had a part in Sammy’s medical care, Decatur Dialysis Clinic, Dr. Reddy, Dr. Gadish, and many more. There are really no words to express our appreciation to everyone that had a part in his care no matter how small or large your gesture was the deed, we thank you all.
