Samuel Ray Robertson, 60, passed away November 12, 2012 at his family home in Killen, Ala.
Sam was born to Charlie D and Frances Pearl Melissa (Guthrie) Robertson on Aug. 25, 1952 in Florence. In 1973, he married his wife of 39 years, Beverly (Russel) Robertson, who survives.
Sam was of the Baptist faith and worked for many years as an Auto CAD Designer. He was the former owner of R&R Color Center in Florence and a member of Boilermakers Local 455. He graduated from Coffee High School in 1972 and earned an associate’s degree from Calhoun Community College in Decatur. He was the first college graduate in his family. He was the recipient of a bone marrow transplant and an advocate of cancer research studies performed at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He lived his life with honesty and kindness. Sam’s service in life was helping others through donations of time and labor in many facets. He loved woodworking and farming. He adored his family and was the patriarch for his immediate and extended family.
Surviving along with his wife, Beverly, are three children, Kris Robertson; Melissa (Robert) Blankenship and Michele Robertson Wilkinson; three brothers, Lawrence Robertson, Randall Robertson and Tim Robertson; five grandchildren, Kanyon and Foster Robertson, Paige Wilkinson, and Samuel and Emma Ruth Blankenship; and 25 nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Robertson.
Arrangements have been made with Greenview Memorial Funeral Home in Florence, Ala. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence. Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Rev. Henry H. Melton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Pall bearers are Tommy Robertson, Sabian Russel, Andy Russel, Tony Russel, Shane Sutherland and Phil Luman.
