SamuelSamuel Marvin Stockman, 67, of Cherokee, Alabama, died Friday, May 31, 2013, in Cherokee, Alabama. Mr. Stockman was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the 173rd Airborne Division. He was a truck driver for over twenty years. He was also a lifelong farmer and outdoorsman. Visitation is scheduled for 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, at Asphalt Rock Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. Services will be officiated by Bro. R. C. Scott. Interment will follow in Asphalt Rock Cemetery. Pallbearers include Josh Sutton, Patrick Taylor, Heath Taylor, Jimmy Tapp, James Earl Welch, and Ronnie Moates. Honorary Pallbearers include Tommy Waltrip, Dan LaFan, and C. H. Williams, Jr. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Gail Stockman of Cherokee, AL; one son, Matthew Marvin Stockman and wife, Debra, of Tuscumbia, AL; one brother, Thomas Franklin Stockman and wife, Joyce, of Silver Springs, FL; two grandchildren, Lydia Stockman and Damien Fuller, both of Tuscumbia, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a lifelong friend, C. H. Williams, Jr. of Cherokee, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Terra Amerson Stockman; a brother, James Weldon Stockman; and a sister, Chiquita Jane McBrayer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Samuel Marvin Stockman Memorial Fund at Bank Independent in Cherokee.
