Sammy L. Elder, (81), of Birmingham, AL, passed away on February 7, 2024, surrounded by his family. Sammy was born to Thelma and Calvin Elder, May 28, 1942. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. He was a man of great faith; devoting his life to service of Christ through Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church, the Gideons International and many individual service efforts. He was a proud cancer survivor and passionate supporter of the American Cancer Society.
Sammy is survived by his wife Vicky, son Luke (Jordan), granddaughters Millen, Logan, Blakley, brothers Billy, Phillip and Gary along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by siblings Lawson, Robert, Juanita, Dave Allen and Myrtle.
While spending the last several years near his son’s family in Birmingham, his home was always Ripley, TN. Quick witted, he was never without a story or time to talk. He will be truly missed.
Sammy’s family will host a visitation on Sunday, February 11th from 1:00-3:00 PM along with Funeral services on Monday, February 12th at 10:00 AM. Both will be held at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church and burial will follow in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. Garner Funeral Home of Ripley has charge of the services.
