Mr. Sammy Joe Hayes, age 76 passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in the NHC Healthcare in Somerville, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Grover Westover officiating. Burial will follow at the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation for Mr. Hayes will be held, Thursday evening, March 5, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. Sammy Joe Hayes is survived by his wife, Betty Freels Hayes, a son, Ricky Joe Hayes both of Whiteville, TN, a daughter, Norma Sue Lee, (Kenny) Toone, TN, one brother, T.P. Hayes, and two half-sisters. He leaves a legacy of three grandchildren including Jessie Hayes, Tonya Kelley, Timothy Kelley and seven great-grandchildren Katlin Kelley, McKenzie Nerren, Austin Nerren, Kayleigh Hayes, Kyndal Hayes, Bryson Hayes, Blayne Kelley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy Hayes and Eva Benard Hayes. Sammy Hayes was born on December 8, 1943, in Haywood County. He worked in the past as a tractor mechanic for Fletcher Equipment. Pallbearers for the service are Wayne Qualls, Terry Goodman, Mack Henley, Mark Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Gaylon Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, 3844 Eurekaton Rd., Stanton, TN 38069.
