  Obituary of Sammy Floyd CrawfordSammy Floyd Crawford, 77, died August 4, 2024 in Decatur, Alabama. Sammy was born October 17, 1946, in Lufkin, Texas to Floyd Crawford and LaRue Horton Crawford.

Sammy is survived by his wife of almost fifty-seven years, Aileen Simoneaux Crawford, their son Sammy Crawford II; grandsons Aaron Lane Crawford and David Andrew Crawford. Also surviving are his sister, Deborah Crawford of Dallas, Texas and his brother, James ‘Wheel’ Crawford of Lufkin, Texas.

Sammy graduated in 1969 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Geology. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran and member of VFW Post 4190, Decatur, Alabama.

After his Army service, he worked as a plant/project engineer for four different manufacturers. He retired in 2005 from Weyerhauser Forest Products, packaging division, in McAllen, Texas.

Upon retirement Sammy and Aileen moved to Decatur, Alabama to be near their son and his family. His grandsons always put a big smile on his face.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors: Hunting, fishing, boating, scuba diving, or just camping out.

There will be a visitation/celebration of life at a later date, for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, his family prefers any donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35601.
