Sam Whiteside Profile PhotoSam Jackson Whiteside, 86, lifelong farmer, died Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at his residence in the Dry Fork Community.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Donald Duncan, Mark Jones, and Paul Whiteside officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday, November 1, 2024 from 1:00 PM until time of the services at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Born December 27, 1937 in Maury County, Tennessee to the late William James Whiteside and the late Juanita Jackson Whiteside. He was the salutatorian of Hampshire High School Class of 1956 and played and helped develop the Isom Softball Team. Sam was a lifelong tobacco and cattle farmer and member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Nina Grimes Whiteside of Hampshire; two daughters, Dionne (Kenny) Manire and Olivia Whiteside both of Columbia; two sons, Paul (Hillary) Whiteside and James Terry Whiteside both of Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Laura (Chance) McCrary, Weston (Breonna) Whiteside, Kirk Whiteside (fiancé Taylor Milliken), Mia Manire, Eva Manire, Nina Manire, Martha Jane Manire, and Cooper Malugin; three great grandchildren, Carson McCrary, Tanner McCrary, and Ansley Whiteside; two brothers in law, Tex Hopkins and John Langham; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters Ella Ann Whiteside, Martha Whiteside, Mary Neely Hopkins, and Jamie Sue Langham.

Pallbearers will be Weston Whiteside, Kirk Whiteside, Chance McCrary, Brent Worley, Kenny Manire, Steve Riley, Tommy Grimes, Randall Himes. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lee Runions, Eric Runions, J.W. Garner, John Morton, David Kincade, Cecil Whiteside, Steve Parks, Harry Floyd, Rob Floyd, Jon Paul Jones, Tex Hopkins, John Langham, Dry Fork Friends and Isom Softball Team. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ben Gardner and the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus for their compassionate care.
