obituary imageSally Marie Carrick Owings, 85, peacefully entered her eternal rest on July 4, 2024. She was born on February 20, 1939, in Tracy City, Tennessee and was the middle child and loving sister of four brothers.

Sally was a sweet, kind and thoughtful person. She never met a stranger, and dearly loved animals all her life. After graduating from Grundy County High School in 1957, she went to nursing school in Monteagle, Tennessee, and was very disappointed when the school closed before she could finish. She also attended University of North Alabama in Florence, Wallace State Community College and Martin Methodist College.

Sally met the love of her life Michael Owings in August 1957 and they were married September 4, 1965, before he graduated from medical school. She was a devoted wife and mother who supported him throughout his career, assisting Michael with his medical practice, including relocating the family several times. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas. They settled in Florence, Alabama to raise their family. Later, they moved to Pulaski, Tennessee, and then to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to their children. She loved to garden, was an excellent cook, and adored reading and traveling.

Sally enjoyed volunteer work and was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Margie Carrick and her four brothers, Jimmy, Chester, Carl, and Larry Carrick. She will be dearly missed by her husband, of 58 years, Jon Michael Owings, M.D. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Marjorie Arnston (Scott), Jonanna Cole, and John Owings and grandchildren, Corinne and Matthew Arnston.

Visitation will be Friday, July 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. Private burial will follow at Tracy City Cemetery in Tracy City, Tennessee.

While the family appreciates flowers, a donation to the Alzheimers Association or the Ark of Huntsville may be made.
