MONTGOMERY-The sales tax holiday for school-related items begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, and ends at midnight Sunday July 23, 2017, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, books and clothing free of the state’s four percent sales or use tax. Many cities and counties also waive their local taxes as well.

Alabama lawmakers moved the tax holiday to the third weekend in July to ensure it always falls before the first day of school.

Here are the items that qualify as tax exempt:

Certain school supplies ($50 or less per item)

Computer and tablets ($750 or less per item)

Books ($30 or less per book)

Clothing ($100 of less per article of clothing)

Remember you can include baby diaperas in this tax-free weekend!
