Sadie Mae McCleskey Long

Sadie Mae McCleskey Long passed away on February 17, 2025 at home with her family. She was 87 years old. Sadie was born to William Edward McCleskey and

Annie Ruth Rodgers McCleskey on December 11, 1937. She was a cherished only child. She was such a great student and had many accomplishments.

She graduated from Austinville High School in 1956. Sadie was in the Beta Club 54-55, Officer 56; Paper Staff 56; Class Historian 56; office girl 54. She was very sweet and sincere and well-liked by all her classmates. After school she began work at The First National Bank of Decatur, she was a dedicated employee for 14 years.

She married Charles Hoyt Long on August 7.1965. They welcomed one child, Pamela Ann Long. Sadie became a stay-at-home mom to Pam and a full-time care giver to her mother later. She did both with absolute love and compassion. Sadie went back to work after 22 years at home. She worked at the Morgan County Courthouse license department for 10 years and then retired.

Charles and Sadie were long standing members of Shady Grove Baptist Church. After retirement, her and Charles enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending lots of time with

their grand boys, Trevor Dean Sherrill and Talon Brady Sherrill.

Sadie was preceded in death by her father, William Edward McCleskey; her mother, Annie Ruth Rodgers McCleskey; her husband, Charles Hoyt Long; and her grandson, Tristan Hoyt Sherrill. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Ann Sherrill Flippo (Shane); grandsons, Trevor Dean Sherrill and Talon Brady Sherrill; and step-grandchildren, Jasper Flippo and Olivia Flippo

Pallbearers will be honorary members of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with Brother Tom Campbell officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with the service immediately following. Burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery.
