Born Jan. 19, 1923, in the Fairview neighborhood of Decatur, Sadie was predeceased by her father, Younger Turner Hancock; mother, Sarah Schnetzler Hancock; brother, Garland Hancock (Nell); and sisters, Mary Morris Riley, Martha Page (Charlie) and Norma Lane (Ellis).
After a long career working as secretary to several Decatur firms, being Home Room Mother throughout her daughter’s school years, and generally caring for other people, she moved to Birmingham in 2008 to live near her only child, Patricia Floyd Seitz (Karl), and died at Fair Haven Retirement Home on Feb. 19, 2016, after several years of declining health.
She is also survived by her beloved only grandchild, Lee Kerlin Seitz (Dorothy) and great-grands, Walter, Andrew, Hannah and Thomas, who live too far away in Huntsville; and most special niece, Caroline Page of Tanner.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 followed by a short service at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 741 Danville Rd SW, Decatur, AL 35601.
