IMG_5868 copyTUSCUMBIA-The 17th annual Saddle Up for St. Jude Trail Ride and Concert took place on July 19th and 20th at the Gardiner Farm in Tuscumbia.

The previous sixteen events had raised 1.2 million dollars for St. Jude. The year the volunteers pulled out all the stops to out do previous years.  Last figures, they had raised over $120,000 and still had more funds trickling in.

Friday night concerts with The New Tones County Band and April Michelle.  Saturday’s concerts featured The Josh Brannon Band, Kerri Gilbert and the KGB.  and country music star Tracy Lawrence. I  caught Saturday evening performances and I share some of my photos with you.IMG_5866 copy

I don’t follow country music, but have been exposed to it a lot lately between Saddle Up and the Helen Keller Festival, so the only thing I can measure whether a country band is famous is by the type of bus they arrive in and the crowd they draw, and Tracy Lawrence must be a big star.

As one who has worked in a laboratory setting for almost 37 years, I’m very familiar with the fantastic work that St. Jude’s does.  We see a lot of patients from the area getting post treatment blood work.

Next year I hope to borrow a horse and ride in the trail ride and take pictures of that event.  Maybe one of my friends can help me with that.  I grew up on a horse, but that was a long time ago for this ole gal. I also spied some barns I need to go back and photograph.
