Ruth was born on April 9, 1933, in Haleyville AL. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and spent the rest of her life telling those she met and her family what Jesus had done for her. Her life was her witness. Ruth was always willing to witness whether it was on the phone to a telemarketer, a health professional taking care of her, a friend, or a family member. From a young age, she showed a remarkable spirit and determination, and qualities that guided her throughout her life.
Ruth was a homemaker for most of her life. She was employed as an inspector at Kellwood Company for over 10 years. She was active in her children’s school life, always willing to bake cupcakes for school, and help any way she could. Ruth served as a substitute teacher for several years.
Family was at the center of Ruth’s world. She was a devoted spouse, mother, and friend. Her love and support for family was unwavering. She maintained close relationships with many of her nieces and nephews, always reminding them of the importance of family. “Maw Maw” leaves behind a legacy of a strong faith in God, love, kindness, generosity, and integrity. Her Memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ruth had a passion for children and young people serving them throughout her church life. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, AL. She worked with GA’s, always volunteered for Vacation Bible School, chaperoned summer camp trips, prepared meals for children on Wednesday nights, and was an active member of Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She loved attending events for her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Ruth loved growing and taking care of flowers and plants outside, always having ferns on her porch and lots of colorful flowers around her house. Ruth loved decorating outside for Christmas. Friends and acquaintances in Phil Campbell were always commenting to her how much they enjoyed her outside lights and decorations.
Ruth was famous for her chicken and dressing. One of her joys was cooking cakes for her friends and relatives.
As we mourn the loss of Ruth, we also celebrate the incredible life she lived. Her legacy is one of love, dedication, and resilience. She taught us to love unconditionally, to not judge people, and to be a helper to anyone in need. Ruth’s memory will continue to inspire us each day.
Mother’s life was a testament to the power of the love of Jesus Christ and the impact that Jesus can have on one person’s life and on the world. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
