Ruth Ellen Comer, 82, of Rogersville, Alabama passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Cedarview Assisted Living Facility. She lived for the past three years at Cedarview being taken care of by the greatest caregivers one could ever ask for. They loved her and she loved them. Before that Ruth spent most of her life at her home in Comer Subdivision in Rogersville being married for 54 years, raising her two sons and working 35 years at Regions Bank.
Ruth was born in 1942 on top of Blackjack Mountain in Mansfield, Arkansas where she held wonderful memories of growing up on a farm with her parents and sister. At the age of eighteen she moved to Sheffield, Alabama to live with her sister and brother-in-law and attended Florence State where she met the love of her life, Sherrel Comer. Ruth loved her two granddaughters and spent her retirement years taking them shopping and watching them play basketball. Her greatest love was playing the piano where she could get lost in the music and during her time at Cedarview she would entertain her fellow residents by playing songs.
Mrs. Comer was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrel and her parents, C.B. and Alice Fulgham. She is survived by her sons, Greg Comer and Randy (Mary) Comer; granddaughters, Lauren Comer (finance, Jonathan Calvano) and Ashley (Mitchell) Ambrose; sister, Rosemary and brother-in-law, Charles Reid; nieces, Alisha Reid, Jill Comer and Sandie Hill; nephew, Roger Comer.
Special thanks to Pam Corum who took care of Ruth for five years after the passing of her husband and Cletis Watkins for treating her like her mom for the last three years at Cedarview along with all the other staff members.
A graveside service will be Saturday, November 9th at Civitan Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Alex Bayes officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ruth’s name to the Rogersville Church of Christ Missions or to Athens Limestone Hospital Foundation.
