Parkes, Ruth Elizabeth Henkel —-
Age 91 passed away Friday, October 5th, 2012. She was preceded in death by her late husband Edward Neelley Parkes Jr., as well as siblings, Adeline Fredebeil, Lucille Niedergeses, Hubert Henkel and Wilfred Henkel.
Survivors include her six children: Edward Neelley Parkes III (Barbara), Mooresville, N.C;, Carol Lynn Parkes, Memphis, TN; Suzanne Parkes Johnson (Terry), Brentwood, TN; Robert Dunn ”Bob” Parkes, Lawrenceburg, TN; John Russell Parkes (Phyllis), Columbia, TN; and Christi Parkes Goodman (Bruce), Staunton, VA. Ms. Parkes is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Edward Neelley Parkes IV (Lisa); Shannon Parkes Harlow (Michael); Erin Parkes Sherrill (Justin); Matt Johnson (Ashley); Josh Parkes Johnson (Jessica); Julie Johnson Morgan (Tyson); Jake Johnson (Ashley); Lauren Elizabeth Parkes; Neelley Parkes King (John); Blair Parkes Hickman (Andrew); Allie Elizabeth Goodman; and seven great grandchildren. Ms. Parkes was additionally survived by four siblings, Martha Rogers; Rosemary Piovarcy; Roy Henkel (Henrietta); and Ray Henkel.
In addition to being a devoted Catholic and a communicant at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg, TN, Ms. Parkes was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was an avid sports fan. She attended all of her children’s many sporting events having walked thousands of golf holes following her children in their golf endeavors. Ms. Parkes was also in attendance during many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, having participated in a tailgate while watching one of her great-grandchildren’s games less than three weeks ago. Ms. Parkes was also a member of numerous bridge clubs, social and civic clubs during her life. Ms. Parkes enjoyed following her Atlanta Braves, cooking and all activities involving family and friends.
