We are so grateful for the life of our Mother, Ruth Daniel McCallum, who went to be with our Lord on July 14, 2024. Her life was full of devotion to the Lord and her family from her early years in Montgomery, Alabama, to high school in Henderson, TN, to her life shared with our Father, Dr. Fred McCallum, in their beloved Florence, AL. They shared much including a love for their alma mater, The University of Tennessee where Ruth enjoyed her role as a cheerleader for the Volunteers during the 1951 National Championship season and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In Florence, Ruth served in leadership positions in the Muscle Shoals District Alabama Service League, the Friends of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, and along with Fred, the American Heart Association. She enjoyed many hours playing tennis and bridge with her friends and was an expert crossword puzzle worker. Her mind was always focused on keeping abreast of current events and her mind remained curious and sharp until the end of her life.
Ruth lived a life of quiet inner strength and determination to remain independent. These traits will continue to inspire those who knew her every day.
What a blessing her friends in the Ferguson Sunday School Class and the First United Methodist Church were to her where her spunky jackets brightened everyone’s day. Special thanks to Lonnie Martin, and to all the caregivers at Eldercare who enabled her to remain in her home. Many thanks to Integrity Therapy Group for keeping her “on the go” until the end of her life.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Jester McCallum, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Ellison Daniel, and her brothers Edwin Daniel, Sam Daniel, and Roy Daniel. She is survived by her children, Fred J. McCallum, Jr. (Connie), and Carla Ruth McCallum Ventress (Bill). Also by her grandchildren; Will McCallum (Allison), Grant McCallum (Jenny) Dan Ventress (Evee) and Callie Ruth Ventress. Her great grandchildren are Jordan McCallum, Amelia McCallum, Wick Ventress and Cece (Catherine Ruth) Ventress.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to your favorite charity or First United Methodist Church in Florence
A graveside service will be held in Henderson City Cemetery, TN.
