Russell “Russ” Lee Smolter, 77, of Rogersville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 1, 2024. Russ was a devoted family man and dearly loved playing with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren and riding them around in his power chair. He was a retired HVAC Tech and avid reader.

Visitation for Russ will be Saturday, March 9th from 1-3p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel. Burial will be held in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Derek Waffle will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Rusty Smolter, William Smolter, Andrew Smolter, Brian Fincher, Janathan Allen and Howards Delafchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Yarbrough and Tanner Elwood.

Mr. Smolter is preceded in death by his mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousins and in-laws. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Martha Smolter of Rogersville, Alabama; sons, Russell “Rusty” Lee (Chrystal “Christy”) Smolter, Jr. of Rogersville, Alabama, William (Kimberly) Smolter of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Margaret “Meg” (Brian) Fincher of Anderson, Alabama; grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Smolter, Ashley (Jonathan) Allen, Brittney (Eric) Yarbrough, Tatum (Tanner) Elwood, Alexandria Downey, Camden Smolter, Delaney Smolter, Elizabeth Fincher and Maddison Fincher; and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extended a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Affinity Hospice, especially his nurse Brittany for all of their compassionate help and care.
