Russell Moore Clayton – Obituary

Russell Moore Clayton, 70, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born September 3, 1946, in Tupelo to Russell Basil and Vivian Moore Clayton. Russell graduated from I.A.H.S. and was drafted in the United States Army in November of 1967, and served until November of 1969. During a tour of duty in Vietnam on November 27, 1968, he distinguished himself against a hostile force. His heroic action earned him the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism. He also earned the Bronze Star Medal for services in Vietnam from April 1968 to April 1969.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, at Greenwood Baptist Church with Bro. Kelby Johnson officiating. Rusty Clayton will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Keyes Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is entrusted with arrangements.

He leaves behind a son, Rusty (Jana) Clayton and a granddaughter, Kailey, all of Jasper, Indiana; a brother, Thomas, of Dorsey; a sister, Bettye, of Clinton, MS; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, L. Q. Clayton.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Spradling, Larry Moore, Eric Thorn, Wayne Thorn, Jimmy Gray, and John Ed Gray.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until service time Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Armed Services YMCA of the USA or Lone Survivor Foundation.
