Ruby Nell Sumner
July 14, 1936 – August 19, 2023

Our dear Nell returns to the house of the Lord after years of a beautiful life with her children, Celeste and Darryl, and enjoying her grandchildren, Shelby, Kevin and Maria Jesus. She was born July 14, 1936, in Wolf Springs, Alabama.

Later, Nell married James Hoyt Sumner on August 3, 1957, in Florence, Alabama. She worked almost all her life in banking, retiring after 35 years from Compass Bank.

Nell was called “The Navigator” because she read the road maps when she traveled with her loved ones seeing beautiful and unforgettable places in 48 of the 50 states of the United States of America.

Now our dear Nell embarks on her last journey to reunite with her daughter, Ingrid Celeste Stark, her nephew, Steve Harrison, her brothers, Joe and William “Billy” Harrison, and her parents, Walter Guy Harrison and Myrtie Lorine Stanley.

Survivors include her son, Darryl Sumner and wife, Nedyelka Sumner; her grandchildren, Shelby Nicole Stark and Kevin Sumner; her step granddaughter, Maria Jesus Bujanda; her siblings, Harold “Red”, Mary, Kay and Barbara Harrison; her sister-in-law, Genevieve Dugas Harrison, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews, great grandnieces, and friends. They all bid her farewell with sadness, but with deep gratitude for every moment shared in this life with certainty that she is now resting in peace. Thank you so much for your life, Ruby Nell Sumner.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
