rubyRuby Nell Hollis Gambrell Gibson passed away Thursday March 17th, 2016 at the age of 92 years and 10 days. Born March 7, 1924 into the Holly Creek Community in Wayne County Tennessee, she moved to Florence in 1941.

The funeral will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Sunday March 20th. Visitation will be at 1:00 with the funeral at 3:00 with the Rev. Dwayne McDuff officiating. Graveside service will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

During her life Ruby valued God, country, and family. She was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church for 50 years where she attended the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Most recently she was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Florence. Ruby served as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #11 advocating for veterans and their families. She loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ruby was the wife of the late E.E. Gambrell and the late J.C. Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents, W. W. [Bud] Hollis and Virginia Maude Nicholson Hollis; three brothers, Clifford, Milton, and Rodney Hollis; and two sisters, Maude Hollis Linville and Virginia Hollis Franklin.

Ruby is survived by her son, Edward and his wife, Drucilla Sharp Gambrell; grandchildren, Susan (PR) Sanderson & Philip (Chrisy) Gambrell; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lawler, Philip Jr. and Avy Gambrell, Brock Sharer, & Cameron and Conner Sanderson; long time best friend and sister-in-law, Betty Tucker; many nieces and nephews & extended family.

Ruby was deeply attached to her nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Tommy. She loved each one dearly and expected lots of hugs every time she was with them.

To my family and friends: “I want you all to know how much I loved each of you and appreciate all the years we have had together and how much you meant to me. To all of my extended family, thank you; YOU were my family.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Lawler, Philip Gambrell, Jr., Brock Sharer, Lee Hollis, David Hollis, & Blair Hollis.

Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of Home Instead Senior Care and ElderCare Services, Hospice of Tennessee Valley, and Dr. Lyman Mitchell.

Memorials may be made in honor of Ruby to the Florence First Cumberland Presbyterian Church LOGOS Children’s program or to The American Cancer Society.
