Ruby Nell Brewer, age 88 died February 1, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Joy McKinnon.
She was born in 1925 in the Roby community of Chester County, daughter of the late Gene and Lessie Fields Woods. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1943, Freed-Hardeman College with an Associate degree in 1945, was married to Max Brewer in 1946, and received her B.A. degree from Union University in 1951 and her Master’s degree from Memphis State University in 1956. She taught school in Chester County for fifty years and eight months, teaching at McCalls, Center Point and East Chester Elementary. She was a member of the Chester County Retired Teachers, TN Education Association and the National Education Association. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Joy McKinnon (AL) and Gina Nelson (Scott), a granddaughter, Natalie Nelson and a niece, Regina Woods East.
Several other close family members that hold dear to her heart includes Rubye Brewer Bailey, her children, Mike Bailey, wife Beth, daughters, Mary and Meg. Nancy Loy and children, Jamie and Brian. The late Nell Rankin, her children: Sandra (David) Jones, and Beverly Rankin. Sandra’s children (Jan and Dan), Jan’s son Everett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Brewer, her parents, Gene and Lessie Fields Woods and two brothers, Kenneth Woods and Ben Woods.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Johnson Chapel with Bro. Ben Flatt conducting the service. Burial will be at the Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Chapel 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday.
