Ruby Loraine Salter – Obituary

Ruby Loraine Salter, born Ruby Loraine Ross in McNairy County, TN, on August 26, 1923, died peacefully on April 4, 2017 at Rosewood Residences in Tupelo, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents Stella and Lon Ross, her husband Donald Wolfram Salter, her brothers Othalee, L.R, Dee and Benny Ross, and her daughters Patricia Dee Riley and Cora Jane Salter.

She is survived by her daughter, Cam Booker (Warren Booker) of Belden, son-in-law Don Riley, M.D. of Miramar Beach, FL, three grandchildren, Cynthia Riley Kirk of Oxford, MS, Jeff Christian of Tupelo, and Scott Christian of Chickasaw County, and 5 great grandchildren, Megan, Josh, Madison, J.D. and Stella Christian.

Ruby lived a long and exemplary life devoted to her family, in whose hearts she lives on. She raised her young daughters alone after her husband died in 1956, and she cared for her aging mother at home for years, doing all this while working full-time at Stewart and Harris Drug Store in Okolona where she ran the Western Union telegraph and was named clerk of the week numerous times. She was active in her community as a longtime member of the Okolona Christian Church, President of the Pilot Club, and serving Meals on Wheels.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to service time. Condolences may be e-mailed to hollandfuneraldirectors@comcast.net.
