Ruby Jane Monaghan, 82, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. A native of the old Cedar Hill Community in North Lee County, she was born August 31, 1936, to Leland and Annie Elliot Baker. She was employed in the textile industry for most of her working life and known for maintaining a tremendous work ethic. Prior to her retirement, she successfully owned and operated for a number of years Tucker’s Cleaners and Aaron’s Cleaners in Aberdeen and Hood’s Cleaners and Amory Cleaning Center in Amory. Ruby had a love for NASCAR racing. She traveled to Bristol, Daytona, Atlanta and Talladega which she especially enjoyed. She also enjoyed being outdoors, taking Sunday drives and being on the water on her pontoon boat. Ruby’s affectionate smile, nurturing heart and kindred spirit will be greatly missed, especially by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby was a member of Open Door Baptist Church in East Tupelo.
Survivors include her four sons, Bill Monaghan and his wife, Cathy of Saltillo, Phil Monaghan and his wife, Sheila of Madison, Gil Monaghan and his wife, Ann of Tupelo and Neil Monaghan and his wife, Rhonda of Mooreville; one brother, Charles Leland Baker and his wife, Julie, of Tupelo; nine grandchildren, Addison Monaghan and Leah, Ashley Hensley and her husband, Zach, Andrew Monaghan, Micah Monaghan and his wife, Courtney, Ian Nichols and her husband, Jeremiah, Louise Gable and her husband, Michael, Jack Nunley and his wife, Cathy, Kelli White and Tim and Charity Monaghan; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Annie Elliot Baker, and a long time special friend, Charles “Sedge” Stembridge.
Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019, at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.
Services honoring her life will be 3 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Clinton Worthey officiating. Private burial will follow in Euclatubba Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Addison Monaghan, Victor Armstrong, Trey White, Charles Maxwell, Cale England, Andrew Monaghan and Tim McCollum.
