Ruby Faye Owen Heard of the Hortontown Community was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Church Street Manor in Ecru, MS. Ruby was born on April 11, 1935, to sharecroppers. On Sept. 6, 1952, she married her sweetheart Waymon Heard. They were married for 57 years until his passing in 2009. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years and later joined Cairo Baptist and attended church there until her health declined. Ruby was an assistant teacher at North Pontotoc until she started her own ceramic business. Throughout her life she found pleasure in gardening, gospel music and helping others.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon “Red” Heard; great grandson, Kohen Heard; parents, Lonnie and Annie Bost Owen; sisters, Imogene Corder and Maxine Baldwin; and brothers, E.J. Owen and Norris Owen.
Ruby is survived by son, Randy Heard (June); son, Roger Heard (Melissa); grandson, Jeff Heard; granddaughter, Jennifer Tutor(Jeffrey); granddaughter, Carmen Heard; grandson, Miciah Heard(Breanna); great grandsons, Kaleb, Carter and Caeden Heard, Layeson and Aidryn Tutor; great granddaughter, Rubrey Tutor; sister, Lavern Mills; sister-in-law, Margie Heard; sister-in-law, Rhea Fern Heard and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Jimmy Russell officiating. Visitation will begin at 11AM and continue to service time. Burial will follow in Warren Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Heard, Miciah Heard, Jeffrey Tutor, Kaleb Heard, Carter Heard, Caeden Heard, Layeson Tutor and Aidryn Tutor.
