roy-reid-anderson-1478267691Roy Reid “Monk” Anderson , 93, of Lexington, Tennessee passed away peacefully at Lexington Health Care and Rehab Center on Thursday, November 3’d,2016.
Monk was born in the Poplar Springs, Tennessee community on March 26,1923 to Ben and Eva (Reid) Anderson, and married his wife of 59 years, Sue Washam Anderson, on September 15,1946.
Faithfully serving his country, Monk served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War ll and was assigned to the Aleutian lslands. He was a member of the V.F.W.
Embodying the entrepreneurial spirit, Monk was the owner and operator of Monk’s Grill, Anderson Sporting Goods and Anderson Marine in Lexington. An avid hunter and fisherman, Monk loved all sports, especially attending and watching any football or basketball games.
He was appointed to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission by Governor Lamar Alexander, and also served as a Colonel, Aide de Camp, Governor’s Staff under Governor Alexander. He was an active member of the Tennessee Republican Party and the Henderson County Republican Party.
Monk was elected to the Henderson County Commission, served lengthy appointments to the City of Lexington Planning Commission and Lexington lndustrial Board and was the oldest serving Founding Member of the Lexington Lion’s Club.
Monk was preceded in death by his loving wife Sue Washam Anderson, parents Ben and Eva Anderson, brother James Alton Anderson and sisters Jewel Anderson Bunch and Margie Anderson Williams.
He is survived by his two sons, Danny (Teresa) Anderson and Tom Anderson, grandsons Reid (Cameron) Anderson and Hunter Anderson, sister Lois Graves Anderson and brother James Neal Anderson, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at Lexington First United Methodist Church beginning at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 6th, 2016 with Dr. Douglas Norfleet and Dr. Bill Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00pm on Saturday, November 5th at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington, and preceding the funeral service at Lexington First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lexington Cemetery.
The family gives thanks to God for the gift of his life and the blessings and joy of the treasured times spent with him.
Memorials may be made to Lexington First United Methodist Church.
