Roy Porter Green

Roy Porter Green of Toney passed away on Sunday while surrounded by his loving family.  He was 87.  He was fondly referred to as “Rosin” by his grandson, Ricky, which was a nickname he had been given as a child.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren also lovingly referred to him as “Pawpaw”.

Mr. Green was born in 1936 in Blue Ridge, Georgia where he still owned land that had been passed down through his family since the civil war. He moved to Huntsville as a young man of 18 and owned his own business, Quick Service Shoe Repairing and also owned a motorcycle shop next door.   He had a passion for working on cars and motorcycles and was always a gifted handyman.

Mr. Green was a Christian and a member of  West Huntsville Baptist Church where he gave his life to Christ and was baptized by Dr. Sam Wolfe.   He loved animals and was very close to his dogs, Princess, Buddy, and Karleigh.   His favorite meal was biscuits and gravy and he also loved ice cream, and cornbread/milk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Green; his sister, Ruby Kirby; his nephew, Ladell Chapman; his parents, Fred & Cleo Green.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Teresa Green Martin (Ed); his daughter, Carol Green Neal (Phil Day);  his grandchildren: Ricky (Lexi Nickelson) Neal, Michael (Miranda)vMartin, Katherine (Craig) Smith, Sarah (Rick Simile) Martin; his great-grandchildren: Tucker Neal, Wrynleigh Neal, Cannon Porter Martin, and Anniston Martin; His sister, Frances Chapman; his niece, Vicki (Wade) Heinecke. his nephew, Roger (Wanda) Chapman; his niece, Dylo Bradley.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 2pm at the funeral home.  Burial will follow and will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
