Roy Madison (Pete) Evans Sr. died on April 7, 2013, at 10 p.m. at Destin Healthcare. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson and Ruth Evans; sisters, Ruby Evans and Ola Tavis; and brother, John W. Evans. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verna Mae Evans, of Destin; son, Roy M. Evans Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Stacy Evans, of Destin; grandchildren, Ellie Campbell and husband, Scott, of Destin, and Roy M. Evans III, of New York, N.Y. Also great- grandchildren, Peyton Blanche Youngblood and Carter Hamilton Youngblood; sisters, Mable Waner, of Belmont, Miss., and Lena Farley, of Florence, Ala.; along with many nieces; nephews; and cousins. Mr. Evans was a native of Florence, Ala. He moved to Memphis, Tenn. in 1949, where he resided for 24 years before returning with his wife to north Alabama where they spent many wonderful years on the Tennessee River. In 2001, they moved to Destin, Fla. to join their son and his family. Mr. Evans served his country as a member of the Navy during the Korean War. He had a diverse professional career including funeral director and embalmer, hairdresser and salon owner, Evans Supermarket owner and, upon retirement, started the Evans Cattle Co. He was a faithful Baptist and is now with his Lord. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.
