Roy Eudon Flynn was born in Eufaula Alabama on March 10th, 1932.
He was the third of six children born to Thelma and Leroy Flynn. Eldon Flynn (deceased), Elloine Flynn Tharpe (deceased), Lee Flynn, Betty Flynn Bettes, and Madeline Flynn Farmer are his siblings. Between working the fields and adventures with his brother Lee, he attended high school. He graduated from Blue Springs High in 1950 and immediately enlisted in the US Air Force. His first overseas deployment was in Mildenhall, England. On Christmas Eve 1951, he attended a party in London and met the English Lass who would become his wife for the next 71 years, Eileen Carr. They were married on January 10, 1953. In his 26 years of dedicated service, Roy received many commendations and awards including The Soldiers Medal of Heroism in 1955 for saving a mother and child from drowning in the River Thames. Roy is survived by his wife and five children. Deborah Nina Flynn Marks, David Roy Flynn, Annette Eileen Flynn Ashworth, Pamela Theresa Flynn, and Sandra Marie Flynn. Roy and Eileen traveled to far-flung and exotic locations around the world with 5 kids in tow during his years of military service creating lifelong friends and memories. Roy retired from the Air Force in July 1976 and moved the family to Carrollton, Georgia. He ran several successful businesses and the VFW there for many years. He was a beloved grandfather to five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Roy and Eileen moved to Decatur, Alabama in 2006. Roy was an avid golfer and even received the Ben Hogan “Hole in One Award” during a tournament. He could fix anything, enjoyed building things, and loved gardening and working in his yard. He possessed a huge, fun-loving personality and never met a stranger. A dedicated American he loved his family and his country. He will be sorely missed by many friends and family far and wide.
