Ross Raney, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022, at his residence in Athens, Alabama. He was born in Limestone County and spent 40 years in Michigan where he retired from GM. Ross was a Korean War Veteran, 1955 & 1956, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Ross was of the Baptist faith.
Preceded in death by his parents Claude and Nell McCune Raney; 5 brothers Luie Raney, Claude Raney, Jr., Silas Raney, Paul Raney, and Spears Raney; and 2 sisters Mary Ola Shaheen and Douglas Mae Davis.
Ross is survived by his wife of 68 years Patricia Wright Raney; 4 children Barbara Rogers, Bobbe O’Brien, Bette Pniewski (Richard), and Dan Raney (Pat); 7 grandchildren Douglas Rogers, Ross Rogers, Lisa Rogers, Joe Pniewski, Mark Pniewski, Michael O’Brien, and Daniel Raney, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside for Mr. Raney will be Saturday, June 11th, 2022, at 2:00pm at Poplar Creek Cemetery, with James Lemay officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00-1:30pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
