FLORENCE – Back in the day, four over 4 decades until the 1970’s, if you wanted to see a flick with your date you would visit a movie theatre owned by the Rosenbaum family. There were a couple of others, but Rosenbaum was the family behind the Shoals Theater, the Colbert, Ritz… and a half-dozen others in Northwest Alabama.
Michael who has lived in England with his wife for over 40 years, swung by Florence this week while visiting the U.S. for a wedding to visit his old stomping grounds, see some old friends, and visit his boyhood home. The house in Florence, is now open to the public. It was willed to the City by his mother upon her death. The “Usonian-Style” home is located in Riverview Drive.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take photos as Rosenbaum and his wife, Penny toured his boyhood home. The photos tell it all, they had a wonderful time!
The day before this tour, Michael and Penny along with some friends were given a tour of Stanley Rosenbaum’s signature motion picture theatre, The Shoals”. their tour guide was theater manager, Steve Price. Here are the photos from the tour:
