A native of Memphis, she lived there most of her younger life, except for a few years when she lived in California. Her parents were the late William J. (Billy) Haack, Jr. and Grace Guerry Haack. A 1955 graduate of Central High School in Memphis, she moved to Bolivar in 1961 following her marriage to Harry Morris Denton. Mr. Denton preceded her in death on June 21, 2009.
Mrs. Denton was a member of the Bolivar First United Methodist Church for nearly 45 years where she was active in the UMW, the Altar Guild and the Parsonage Committee. She worked as a secretary beside her husband at Denton and Cary Law Offices. Additionally, she had worked in the office of Bolivar Elementary and at Bolivar Florist.
Always an active volunteer, she served both the Hardeman County Literacy Council and Western Mental Health Institute. Favorite pastimes included smocking for her grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, painting, cooking and tending her flower garden.
Survivors include two sons, Brad Denton (Beverly) of Jackson and Boyette Denton (Melissa) of Bolivar; one daughter, Margarette Denton of Bolivar; nine grandchildren, Ryan Denton, Russ Carter (Leslie), Greg Carter (Susan), Lindsey Denton, Drew Denton, Natalie Denton, Blake Denton, Lauren Logan (Steve) and Hunter Denton; seven great-grandchildren, Rylie Carter, Katie Jane Carter, Mary Denton Carter, John Gregory Carter, Mady Carter, Jackson Carter and John William Logan.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Tim Carter; a son, Brett Denton; a grandson, Logan Carter; and her brother, William J. (Billy) Haack, III.
