Rosalind Rader Oetting Obermann Calandro Fellwock died in Huntsville, AL on January 27, 2022 at the age of 94. Roz was born to Francis (Frank) and Florence Oetting on October 24, 1927 in Springfield, MO, and was raised on a farm in rural Mansfield, MO. She was the first of her family to attend college, receiving a BA in 1949 in English from Missouri State Teacher’s College in Springfield, MO. She had a rich and varied career ranging from schoolteacher, social services, hospital volunteer director, and served as an organist at multiple churches starting at age 13 through her 90’s. Roz was a woman of great faith and was deeply involved with her church families wherever she lived. She was a life-long Lutheran and an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Huntsville. Her many church volunteer activities included serving as a choir director, Meals on Wheels, and kitchen worker for soup kitchens. Roz enjoyed a lifelong hobby as a writer, beginning with detailed journal entries in her 50’s. This interest led to her interviewing and penning the life stories of friends. Over a 30-year period, she wrote life stories of over 50 elders. These “Elder Stories” became treasured keepsakes for the subject’s family. In her 80’s, Roz joined several writers’ clubs, and wrote short, often humorous vignettes and stories from her life growing up during the Depression Years in the Missouri Ozarks. Roz’s stories, poems, and musings were regular features on Huntsville’s WLRH “Sundial Writer’s Corner”. Roz stayed active throughout her life, and she set the Alabama state record for the women’s 5k road race four years running at ages 88-91. Roz was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Marvin Obermann, Vito Calandro, and Raymond Fellwock, sister Dorothy Moffatt, and grandson Eric Obermann. She is survived by children, Janet Obermann of Greenfield, MA, David Obermann of Austin, TX, Stuart (Marcia) Obermann of Huntsville, Christopher (Theresa) Calandro of Joplin, MO; stepchildren, Carolyn Stewart of Fenton, MO, Laine (Bob) Rosin of Ballwin, MO, Stan Fellwock of Lenexa, KS, and Alan (Sharon) Fellwock of Smyrna, GA. “Oma/Grammy/Grandma” Roz had 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 4 at All Saints Lutheran Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to All Saints Lutheran Church at 12100 Bailey Cove Rd, Huntsville, AL 35803 or the Eric S. Obermann Foundation at 13016 Monte Vedra Rd, Huntsville, AL 35803.
