Rosalind G. Howard

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rosalind G. Howard, 80, of Huntsville, AL on May 8, 2024. Rozy, as known to most, was born in Queens, NY on December 24, 1943. She grew up in Belle Harbor/ Queens, NY where she was able to enjoy frequent trips into NYC. Living 2 ½ blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, she also enjoyed frequent walks to and on the beach. After graduating from Far Rockaway High School, Rozy attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she received her Batchelor’s of Science Degree, she then earned her Masters in Music Education at Boston University in 1966. After moving to Huntsville in the late 1960s, she met Dale Wayne Howard. Their married life spanned over almost 53 years.

In Huntsville, Rozy worked for a program called Follow Through, teaching music to mainly underprivileged children throughout the city school system. Her students referred to her as “the singing lady” who travelled from school to school assuring the kids had the opportunity to experience the joys of music. After raising her children, Risa and Jeff, Rozy became a Records Management Specialist on Redstone Arsenal. She retired from this position.

Rozy was a dedicated member of Temple B’nai Sholom her entire Huntsville life. She was a member of the Temple Choir and served as Choir Director for many of those years. Rozy enjoyed performing in several Community Chorus shows including My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof, her favorite being the role of Tzeitel in Fiddler. Rozy Howard was known for her kind heart by all who were lucky enough to know her. Her love for her family, far and near, could not be exceeded.

Rozy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry H. Greene and Sylvia Pearl Greene. She is survived by her loving husband, Dale W. Howard; her children, Marisa Peppers (Allan) and Jeffrey Howard (Daphna); her sisters, Judy Kunitz and Abbie Lovinger; her grandchildren, Jaime Ensminger (Cassie), Sarah Kinchen (Justin), Madeline Herbert, Noam Howard, Nadav Howard, and Adi Howard; and great-grandsons, Zayd Kinchen and Jamie Ensminger.

Funeral Service will be graveside at Maple Hill Cemetery on Monday, May 13th at 1PM.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care, Temple B’nai Sholom (PO Box 2463, Huntsville, AL 35804), or a charity of your choice in Rozy’s memory.
