Graveside services for Ronnie Johnson Humphrey, age 72, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted on Sunday, June 9, at 3:00 PM at Stateline Cemetery with Higgins Funeral Home in charge. The Reverend Tim Smith of Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church is the officiant. Mr.
Humphrey passed away Sunday afternoon, June 2, at Lincoln Manor Assisted Living after a five year battle with cancer.
He was a native of Lincoln County, and the son of Robert Johnson “Bo” Humphrey and Bonnie Price Humphrey who both predecease him. Mr. Humphrey was also preceded in death by a brother Donnie Wayne Humphrey of Winchester, TN.
Mr. Humphrey was a special education teacher in the Lincoln County School System for 30 years. He held a Bachelor of Science degree from his beloved Tennessee Tech University. Go Golden Eagles! At Tennessee Tech, Ronnie Humphrey became lifelong friends with his fraternity brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He continued his education, receiving a Masters in Special Education from Middle Tennessee State University.
His training in special education aided Mr. Humphrey’s work with all levels of students who had special needs. He was beloved by many of those students who never forgot his teaching and influence in their lives. Mr. Humphrey was always so happy to see these former students and catch up with their lives, and they with him.
Survivors include his brother Con Wilson Humphrey and wife Arden of Fayetteville, TN; and brother Robert Timothy and wife Amanda of Lewisburg, TN. Mr. Humphrey is also survived by his church family at Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the director, nurses, and staff at Lincoln Manor Assisted Living. Honorary Pallbearers will be his special caregivers from Lincoln Manor Assisted Living. Throughout his cancer battle, Mr. Humphrey remained positive and an inspiration to others. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Visitation with the family will be at the cemetery from 2:00 PM until time for the service.
In lieu of flowers, Ronnie’s request was that memorials be made to Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, IOI 5 Lewisburg Highway, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or to Lincoln Medical Home Health and Hospice, 106 Medical Center Boulevard, Fayetteville, TN 37334.
