Ron Raney, age 63, died May 18, 2017, at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Carrolls Creek Baptist Church with Alan Roggli officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his son, Wade Raney; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Eugene Raney; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Howard Truitt; sister, Jeannie Cothren; niece, Donna Mitchell; and nephew, DeWayne Robison.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Truitt Raney; daughter, Cassie Raney Clark (Justin); sons, J. C. Raney (Brittany) and Shane Raney (Miranda); sister, Carol Ann CleckLer (Lowell); and grandchildren, Kaitlyn Clark, Truitt Clark, and Jackson Raney. He affectionately called them “Tootie”, “Hot Rod” and “Pistol” respectively.
He was a beloved father and Poppy. He enjoyed time spent with his family, NASCAR, fishing, Alabama sports, and infelicitous jokes. He was an immense joy to be around and had a way of bringing joy to all.
Pallbearers will be Lowell CleckLer, Phil Jordan, Larry Robinson, and Chris Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers are doctors Kemp and Kamal, Carrolls Creek community, and employees of Jack’s Hamburgers.
