Ron Harmon was born in Madison, Georgia, the oldest son of five of Augustus Clay (A.C.) Harmon and Freddie Martin. He grew up in various towns in the Southeast as the family moved because of his father’s construction job, which included bridge construction. Ron graduated from Dothan High School.

He graduated from Auburn University in 1960 with a degree in civil engineering. He later earned a Master of Administrative Science degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1973.

He married Phyllis Tirey on December 19, 1964, in Winchester, Kentucky, and moved to their first house in Lexington, Kentucky. Ron and Phyllis moved to Huntsville in 1966, and he went to work for Brown Engineering. He would move on to work as a civil servant for the Army in various positions, including for the Department of Defense.

Ron and Phyllis have three children: Tim Harmon, who lives in Cypress, Texas with his wife Kristi; Chris Harmon, who lives in Huntsville with his wife Monna and their children Hannah (attending Auburn) and Raychel; and Gina Moriarity who lives with her daughters Aoife, Aine and Saoirse in Astoria, New York.

He became a deacon at Weatherly Heights Church of Christ on September 12, 1982. He served the Church in that position for close to 40 years. He lived a life he loved, a true servant to others, who cared deeply and approached everything with faith, care, and integrity. He will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation for Friends and Family will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 12 noon on Sunday, June 30, 2024. The funeral service is immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. There will be a private, family-only graveside gathering at Maple Hill Cemetery afterward.
