Funeral for Robert Wayne Allen, 78, of Decatur, will be, Monday, March 4, 2024, at 1:00PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, with Nicki Pressnell and Philip Hines officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 12:00PM-1:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tuck Cemetery in Harvest, Alabama.
Mr. Allen was born January 16, 1946, Huntsville, Alabama to Thomas Robert and Annie Lucille Dorning Allen. He died Friday, March 1, 2024 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Mr. Allen was a graduate of Florence State University with a BS degree in chemistry & biology. He was a member of Decatur Church of Christ, formerly Austinville Church of Christ, and Hartselle Church of Christ. He retired from Alabama Department of Public Health after 35+ years as a microbiologist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Infant Daniel Ray Allen, brother, Gary Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by, wife of 55+ years, Debra Shields Allen; sister, Sara Allen Adams (Ronald); niece, Julie Adams; special friends, Richard Dobbs, Amy Turner, Tisa Brothers, and Dean Mitchell; and other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Roger Martin, Russell Carder, Billy Hicks, Patrick Carder, Keith Carder, and Steven Ricketts.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald Adams, Jimmy Sharp, Archie & Barbara Tennison, Tim Hale, Tony Newton, Jerry & Deborah Hall, and Dr. Robert “Doc” & Margie Baker.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hartselle Church of Christ, Decatur Church of Christ, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
