Robert Marion Pumphrey, 64, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 at his residence in Saltillo. Born on August 29, 1959 to Cecil Pumphrey and Joan Neal Pumphrey in Houston, MS, Robert was raised in the Church where his father, the late Bro. Cecil Pumphrey shared the Gospel of Christ with parishioners for many decades. The Pumphreys were called to minister in California where they lived for 11 years. Robert graduated in 1977 from Orange High School in Orange, California where he met many friends and made lifelong acquaintances. He lived in California until 1991 when he returned to his native Mississippi to spend the rest of his life. He was a master flooring installer and ran his company, Pumphrey Flooring for over 40 years. A strong family man, Robert loved his 6 children and 11 grandchildren and followed their sporting and other activities faithfully. Nothing brought him more joy than his family! He loved the Lord, studied His word and enjoyed serving his Creator with joy. Robert spent years in Good News Church (King’s Gate) which his father pastored for many years as well as in Hope Church in Tupelo. Robert loved horses and all of God’s creation, spending as much time as possible outdoors. Later in life as his health failed, he became an avid fan of John Wayne movies/westerns. Robert was a skilled and devoted laborer in his life work as well as in his love and devotion to his children and his commitment to the Gospel. Robert’s life was way too short in years but lived fully recognizing the awesome grace of God and the promises of His salvation, which he now realizes.
A Celebration of Life Service for Robert will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Arbor Grove Baptist Church, 883 CR 93, Houston, MS. with Pastor Andy Black officiating as Sarah and Tyler Smith provide music. Private burial will take place at Arbor Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve their friends.
