Mr. Robert Lynwood Beavers Covington, Jr. age 86, of Vernon, AL, passed away Thursday, March 2, at his residence.
Mr. Covington was born August 3, 1936, in Vernon, AL, to the late Robert Lynwood Beavers Covington, Sr. and Stella Covington. He served in the National Guard, and founded Covington Contractors around 1965. Mr. Covington served multiply terms as a city councilman for the City of Vernon, and served as mayor for the City of Vernon from 1976-1980. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 5, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Ed Broadway and Jerry Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 prior to the service.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Covington, of Vernon, AL; two sons, Mike Covington of Vernon, AL and Mitch (Jamie) Covington of Key West, FL; four grandsons, Tyler (Joanna) Covington, Alex (Carrie) Covington, Thomas (Amy) Covington, and Matt (Tiffany) Turner; three great-grandchildren, Penny May Covington, and Max and Whit Turner; and one nephew, Kelly Cannon.
