Robert Lee Freeland, 78, of Madison, Alabama passed away at his residence on November 25, 2022 after a battle with cancer.
One of the kindest souls on this planet, our father was a gentle, generous man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.
He was born July 5, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Earl R. and Rose (Kunz) Freeland. After graduating from High School, Robert enlisted into the Air Force in June 1964 and served in the Vietnam War. After 22+ years of service, Robert retired reaching the rank of Senior Master Sargent. He moved his family to Huntsville, Alabama in 1987 where he began his career at Boeing working on the International Space Station program.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cecilia (Inson); son, Bobby Freeland (Jocelyn); two daughters, Elizabeth Butler (David) and Mary Parks (Brian); six grandchildren, Emily, Anthony, Quinn, Sophia, Lilly, and Savannah. He is also survived by his siblings, Rose Marie Woody of North Carolina, Don (Jaque) Freeland of Iowa and William (Karen) Freeland of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Albert Freeland, and sister, Josephine Ritchie.
The funeral service will be held December 1st with visitation at 10 AM and mass at 11 AM in the Chapel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Inurnment of the cremains will follow the mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Columbarium.
