Robert Lee Elliott, age 83, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at NHC Columbia following an extended illness.

Robert was born in Ardmore, Alabama on April 17, 1934, the son of the late George Elliott and Myrtle Price Elliott. He was retired from Monsanto after thirty-five years. Robert was married to the love of his life, Doris Smith Elliott for over sixty-one years and they had two children together. Robert was a great sports enthusiast and athlete, having played all sports in his lifetime. He played on the Columbia State Champs, 1952 football team as star end. That same year he played on the All-State Team. In college at Tennessee Tech, he played End and made Little All-American Team. After college he served as a TSSAA grid official, and kept an association with TSSAA for many years. In later years, he became an avid golfer and was a member of both Graymere Country Club and Stoney Brook Golf Club. He was most passionate about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending as much time as possible with them, and enjoying every minute.

Robert is survived by his adoring wife: Doris Elliot of Columbia; children: Kimberly (Tom) Brewer of Cookeville and Rob Elliott of Columbia; grandchildren: Virginia Barnes, Sarah (David) Forshee, Emily (Nathan) Meacham, Cole Elliott and Ashton Elliott; great-grandchildren: Ella Clare Barnes, Millie Grace Barnes, Charlotte Marie Barnes, Lucus Jeffery Forshee, Michael Forshee, Baylor Ann Hedrick, Harpor Rose Hedrick and Ella Meacham; and siblings: Juanita (Tim) Bailey of Arizona, Richard Elliott of Florida and Herman (Terry) Elliott of Michigan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings: Hubert Elliott and Edna George.

The family will spend time with friends remembering and celebrating Robert’s life on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Columbia Grid Iron Association, 921 Lion Parkway, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.
