Robert Lamont Childs, known as “Bob” to the community, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 13, 2024 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, MS, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral Services honoring Mr. Bob’s life will be at 11 AM Saturday June 15, 2024, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Hamilton, Bro. Brad Chandler, and Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Friday June 14, 2024, at the Ripley Funeral Home and will continue from 9 AM until service time on Saturday. A Graveside Service will follow in Spout Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery with lifelong friends Bro. Keneth Harrison and Bro. Doc Shelton officiating.

The only child belonging to Joseph Lamar and Annie Sue Richardson Childs, Mr. Bob was born on December 7, 1932, in the small Spout Springs Community of Tippah County. He started school in the Spout Springs School House, before attending and graduating from Centre School. On November 23, 1960, Mr. Bob married his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Killough Childs, who survives. Together they planted their roots in Spout Springs, where they raised their children, and made an honest living. Mr. Bob was a smart man and quite the entrepreneur, supporting his family by making wise investments in the stock market, and even sold shoelaces as a child. He was a hard worker, who also enjoyed farming and working with his son’s car business.

A member and inactive deacon of Springdale Baptist Church, Mr. Bob was currently attending Spout Springs Presbyterian Church, where he and his wife went to worship and hear God’s word. His favorite pastimes included keeping up with Fox News and David Jeremiah on television, being outdoors feeding his chickens and rabbits, and above all, sharing time with his family. Mr. Bob loved his grandchildren most and enjoyed nothing more but being their “Pawpaw Bob”. Mr. Bob was devoted to his family and lived a full life making memories with many friends and family, that will always be cherished those who knew and loved him most.

In addition to his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Sue Killough Childs, those left to cherish his memories include two daughters, Cathy Fryar, and Lisa Hopkins (Ronald), three sons, Joe Childs (Cassie), Jerry Childs, and Jeffery Childs, fourteen grandchildren, Caleb Fryar (Brittany), Joshua Fryar (Danielle), Anna Fryar McCoy (Lee), Hunter Mason, Hannah Childs Trull (Logan), Taylor Childs (Trevor Wilbanks), Marlee Childs Alsup (Riley), Claudia Wommack, Kadalee Wommack, Justin Hopkins (Lindsey), Jacee Marie Hopkins, Jenna Grace Hopkins, and Sarah Kate Childs, eleven great grandchildren, Brittan, Bella, Robert Deuel, John Caleb, Jaymes, Raylan, Emma, Maggie, Rylan, Kylee, and Ivy Kate, and a special sister in law, Patricia Killough Duncan (Joe).

He is also preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, Robert and Wilma “Onilla” Rencher Killough, and a son in law, Robert Allen Fryar.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Caleb Fryar, Joshua Fryar, Lee McCoy, Justin Hopkins, Logan Trull, Riley Alsup, Trevor Wilbanks, Hunter Mason, Roger Childs, Michael Hughey, Kipper Mauney, Matt Lilly, Jason Willingham, Michael Jones, and Jimmy “Red” Mathis.
