LTC Robert Hugh Mackintosh, Sr. (Ret.), 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022, at his home in New Market, Alabama. LTC Mackintosh graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s in Business Administration from George Washington University. He attended Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) for a year, and it remained dear to his heart.

LTC Mackintosh served his country in the United States Army as an Ordnance Officer for 22 years. He met and married Lois Laidlaw at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, and remained married to her for the next 65 years. They had two children, Robert Hugh Mackintosh, Jr., and Brian Keith Mackintosh.

In the course of his service, LTC Mackintosh was awarded the National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Air Medal, The Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal (1st Class), and the Legion of Merit.

Upon his retirement, Bob Mackintosh set about transforming 60 acres of Alabama soybean field into a home and horse pasture. He succeeded brilliantly.

Bob is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Brian; two daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Bonniebelle Mackintosh; siblings, Gayle Ostensoe and Richard Mackintosh; son, Robert Mackintosh, Jr.; and grandson, Mathew Mackintosh.

A private ceremony was held at Maple Hill Cemetery on February 16, 2022.
