Funeral service for Robert Holland, Jr., age 72, of Decatur will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Kirby and Rev. Archie Letson, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.
Mr. Holland, who died Monday, September 23, 2024, at his residence, was born September 4, 1952, in Alabama to Robert Holland, Sr. and Mary Kate Hames Holland. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Nicole “Nicky” Holland; parents; four brothers, Owen D. Holland, Gerald Lee Holland, Will Dean Holland, and John Irvin Holland; and one sister, Rose Reed.
J.R. was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam war. He worked many years at G.E. until he retired. He was a friend to many. J.R. was his happiest when he was with his boys, or living off the land. In his past time he enjoyed cooking, fishing, and singing with his guitar. J.R. was very set in his ways and knew exactly what he wanted.
He is survived by two sons, Irvin Holland (Betsey-Joe) and Wes Holland (Shelia); brother, Joe Holland; three sisters, Carol Holland Hutto, Rebecca Pilgrim (Joey), and Susan Holland; and two grandchildren, Jacob Titsworth and Essie Joe Holland.
The family would like to express their special thanks and sincere gratitude to Martha Cooper, friend and caregiver, for all of her help during Robert’s final days.
