Robert Henry Watson – Obituary

Robert Henry Watson, 92, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 28, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held today, Nov. 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Richard Mason officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service. He was born Feb. 23, 1924 in Giles County, Tennessee.

Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Watson; son, Tony Watson; sisters, Frances Miller and Sally Murphy; and brothers, Larry Watson, James Watson, Bobby Watson and Sam Watson.

He is survived by his brothers, Harold “Boots” Watson and Billy Watson; sister, Betty Southerland; and companion and friend, Marcia Fuller.

Robert had the honor of serving in the United States Army, under the command of General Patton during World War II, from 1941 to 1945. He retired from the Decatur Fire Department where he served for 39 years. He also owned and operated Watson’s Heating and Cooling. He was a member and deacon of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Terry, Danny Little, Don Mills, Bobby Lang, Josh Anders and Chris Armor.

We want to thank Robert for gracing our lives with his kind, sincere, and gentle spirit. We will remember his wisdom, compassion, strength, humor, bravery, and his love for family and friends. Robert never met a stranger, and he made a difference in the lives of all who had the honor and privilege to know him.
