Funeral Services for Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Miller, age 85 of Lineville, will held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. David Ray officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Miller passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at UAB Hospital Palliative Care. He was born in Rohrersville, Maryland (MD) and spent the beginning of his life in Hagerstown, MD. He worked for the local railroad at night until he graduated from Hagerstown High School. He then entered in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and was stationed in multiple locations in the United States and in the South Pole. He served during the Vietnam War, served on the U.S.S Hancock, obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer and retired after 20 years of service in 1975. Mr. Miller met his wife of 53 years, Mary Joann Miller, during his military service, and loved traveling and shopping with her over the years. After retirement, He became an active member of the American Legion. He moved back to Hagerstown, MD and briefly opened a camera business and worked as a prison guard for several years. He primarily served as a civilian security guard in Ohio, Indiana, and in Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian over a 28 year span. He retired to Lineville with his wife in 2003. Mr. Miller enjoyed wood-working and could make anything you asked, and built several doll houses for his granddaughters. HE also enjoyed golfing, entered into several bowling leagues and won several trophies, and loved joking around with others. Mr. Miller was a loving husband, Father, and grandfather to many.

Mr. Miller is survived by his daughter, Laura Horchner (Gary) of Fairplay, MD; one son, Michael S. Miller of Smithburg, MD; four grandchildren: Kimberley Lewis (Matthew), Dustin Horchner (Ashley), Candace Schlotterbeck (Brooks), and Christopher Miller (Jacey); great-grandchildren: Cadence, Evelyn, Crue, Rynn, and two more on the way; sister, Shirley Chaney of Hagerstown, MD; brother, Franklin Miller of Ohio; 1 sister-in-law, Debbie Jones (Joe) of Cragford; three brother-in-laws: Alvin Mitchell (Pat) of Lincoln, Calvin Mitchell of Cragford, and Danny Mitchell (Betsy) of Ashland, plus a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Franklin Hugh and Mary Magdaline White Miller; his wife, Mary Joann Miller; one brother, Denny Miller; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Mitchell.

Active Pallbearers will be Dustin Horchner, Christopher Miller, Brooks Schlotterbeck, and Matthew Lewis.

His visitation will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
