Robert Glendon Queen, age 92, of Waynesboro passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023. Visitation will be held on April 7, 2023 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, TN, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm in the chapel with Bro. Jacky Ward officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, TN with Military Rites. The military will be honored with serving as Pallbearers.
Bob, to his Alabama friends and Glennie to his Tennessee family, was preceded in death by his parents, Briley and Pauline Edwards Queen; sister, Briley Imogene Adcock; brothers, Charles Edward Queen and Douglas Queen; his wife of 61 years, Dorla Whitehead Queen; and sons, Robert Kent Queen and Paul Kevin Queen. He is survived by his daughter, Brady Queen-Peden and son-in-law, David.
Bob was born March 6, 1931, in Waynesboro, TN. After graduating from Wayne County High School he enlisted in the United States Navy and serviced during the Korean War on board to USS Laffey destroyer. After completing his tour he returned to Waynesboro and married Dorla. Bob worked as a pressman for various newspapers in Arkansas, Texas, and Alabama before serving as the Circulation Manager at what’s now known as the TimesDaily newspaper in Florence. Bob worked with hundreds of kids and young adults in the Shoals area, giving many of them their first job as a paperboy or working in the mailroom inserting advertising circulars and bundling newspapers, He cultivated many friendships during his and Dorla’s years at the TimesDaily that lasted a lifetime. He later worked as a machinist at TVA prior to his retirement.
Bob was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed spending time with friends, metal detecting, woodworking, and watching football.
