Robert Franklin Fields, 76, of Florence, passed away December 1, 2015 at his residence after an extended illness
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 6-9 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with David Baker, David Fields, Stephen Fields and Frank Mills officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, Tennessee.
Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertie Fields; and a sister, Marcelle Lyons.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Allen Fields; sons, David Allen Fields (Rene’) of Brookhaven, MS, Stephen Robert Fields (Kristy) of Columbia, TN; daughter, Mitzi Jean Baker (David) of Savannah, TN; brother, Charles Fields (Margaret) of Killen; brother in law, Bob Lyons of Florence, Al.; grandchildren, David Walden Fields (Mary) of Brentwood, TN, James Andrew Baker, Robert Eli Baker, and Anna Grace Baker all of Savannah, TN, Thea LaRue Fields of Brookhaven, MS, Spencer Robert Fields, and Alexander Spears Fields both of Columbia, TN.
Pallbearers will include: David W. Fields, Andrew Baker, Eli Baker, Spencer R. Fields, Alexander Fields, and Phil Lyons.
Robert was born and raised in Lexington, Al where he graduated from Lexington High in 1957 and lettered in 3 sports. He was a graduate of Freed Hardeman College where he lettered in basketball & baseball. He also received degrees from The University of Georgia and Louisiana State University Banking Schools. Robert was in the banking profession for over 36 years as a city president in Jasper and Sumiton, Al. Among his many accomplishments he was very civic minded, involved with Kiwanis, and Chamber of Commerce. He served for many years on the Freed Hardeman University Advisory Board as well as the advisory board for Blue Ridge Encampment in North Carolina. Robert received his pilot license in 1972 and remained involved, serving on the Walker County Airport Board. He loved all sports and spent countless hours coaching and teaching with his children and grandchildren. Robert had a true passion for carpentry. He oversaw the construction of all four homes the family built. Robert’s greatest passion was his love of Christ. In his 76 years of life he remained constant in his walk with Christ and was a great servant for God. He served as a deacon for Sixth Avenue church of Christ and elder with Woodland Trace church of Christ in Jasper. While attending Cross Point church of Christ in Florence, Al. he served as chairman of the mission committee for a number of years and was part of the Carpenter Brothers. He was a devoted husband to his wife Dot for almost 56 years and wonderful father to his 3 children and their spouses as well as 7 grandchildren.
