Robert Edwin Lawyer Robert Edwin Lawyer of Hartselle, Alabama, 82, passed peacefully on May 30, 2024, while in the presence of his beloved wife at their home.
He was born July 19, 1941 in Steubenville, Ohio to Hilda (Stuck) and Edwin Lawyer. The son of a homemaker and an electrician. Bob grew up in the Steel mill town of Weirton, West Virginia. He was an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, receiving both his bachelors and masters degree at West Virginia University. He was also an avid WVU football fan. Bob’s genius as an environmental engineer for Carborundum and the Monsanto Company led hi to invent the Venturi Scrubbers that were eventually installed not only in his hometown’s steel mills, but in the mills across the nation.
In addition to his notable achievements in revolutionizing pollution control, Bob was never without a hobby. During his free time, Bob took pride in his classic award winning Pontiac GTOs, touring on his Harley with his friends, carefully constructing -to scale train set, cruising down the Tennessee River in his pontoon boat, or taking to the skies at sunrise in his Piper Cherokee. Bob was always ready for an adventure; whether meeting his buddies for breakfast at Jack’s, or a spontaneous trip to Tahiti with his sister, Janie, for Christmas.
Although Bob was very much a kid at heart, he was also a hopeless romantic. While taking dancing lessons “,he met his bird”, Sharon, whom he married on September 10, 2011. Bob was a devoted husband who adored spending quiet evening with his wife and sweet poodle, Maggie.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his step-children; Step-grandchildren; niece, Jennifer and her husband, Mitch Schneider; and grand-nephews, Grant, Garrett, and Clayton. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Diane (Thompson) , and his sister Jane (Lawyer) Whalen.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 11:00AMto 1:00PM at Peck Funeral Home, followed by a brief service with interment at Moulton Memorial Gardens.
