Robert “Edsel” Thomas, 80, of Summerville, Georgia, formerly of this area, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024. He was born June 20, 1944 to parents Guy and Ruth Thomas of Fort Payne, Alabama.
Graveside services will be 2:30 Friday at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Four Mile Baptist Church of Summerville, Georgia Building Program, PO Box 528, Summerville, GA 30747.
He is survived by his sister Mavis Maxey and his children, Rob, Tina, and Rod. He was a loving and adored “Big Papa” to his granddaughters Meagan Greer (Sean) and Emery Thomas, as well as his great-grandsons Holden, Lane, and August.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Coralene Blake, Carlton Thomas, Delinda McDonald, Waylon “Cotton” Thomas, and Michael Thomas.

The pain of his passing feels unbearable, and we struggle to imagine how we will get through this difficult time. Please comfort us with your loving embrace, Lord, and give us the strength we need to carry on. We know that our father is now in your presence, and we find peace in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering. Please help us to honor his memory by living our lives in a way that would make him proud.”
